It's well known that cats love salmon, but it doesn't have to come in a can. You can actually buy salmon and cook it for them without spices or oils. Salmon has anti-inflammatory properties, and because it's high in omega-3 fatty acids, it's beneficial for their eye, skin, and coat health. It can also be immensely helpful for their brain and nervous system. Just remember, a little goes a long way and cooked salmon shouldn't be a replacement for their normal kitty food.

Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning most of their food intake comes from meat sources. Eggs can provide similar benefits like amino acids, healthy fats like omega-3 and omega-6, vitamins and minerals. Again, only portions of eggs should be given to them at a given meal, and only 1-2 times per week. They should be fully cooked without oil, butter, or spices.

Sardines may not be the most attractive food, but they're definitely easy to get your hands on, and relatively cheap. They're rich in omega-3 fatty acids, lean protein, and vitamins that are purrfect for kitties. Make sure to buy them in water and not oil, and again they shouldn't be seasoned at all. It's also important to cut them into small pieces.

You never thought pumpkins would be good for cats, did you? Yup, they're actually really beneficial for a cat's gastrointestinal health. They also provide significant amounts of potassium, phosphorous, calcium, vitamins A, C, and K, as well as lots of fiber. The pumpkin shouldn't be sweet, sugary, or spiced at all. It's safe to buy canned pumpkin without other additives, or you can cook pumpkin that you buy whole. Just remember it shouldn't be raw.
